Tanner Foust Does Gymkhana Better, Quantum Leap Still

I loved the show Quantum Leap.  I loved the American version of Top Gear.  I love cars and driving skills on display.  I think Tanner Foust is talented and funny.

In case you don't know what Quantum Leap was, here's the intro I found:

Remember When I Used to Blog?

This is cool.

"Box" explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection-mapping on moving surfaces. The short film documents a live performance, captured entirely in camera. Bot & Dolly produced this work to serve as both an artistic statement and technical demonstration. It is the culmination of multiple technologies, including large scale robotics, projection mapping, and software engineering. We believe this methodology has tremendous potential to radically transform theatrical presentations, and define new genres of expression.

My Bright Idea #13 - The Next Generation of The TV

My Bright Idea #13 - December 19, 2011
This "My Bright Idea" post is the unlucky number "13", but I think the idea may already be in the works with Apple's rumored TV project.  I think the next generation of television should change from the standard "over the air" style setup and be more like on-demand via high speed Internet.  This would mean you watch what you want when you want, without filling up your DVR or missing an episode of your favorite show due to a signal, DVR, or scheduling issue.  Logistically, I see the scheduling of shows and their episodes looking similar to today's setup, with an "episode air time and date".  This would be the "release time" for the shows' newest episodes.  But watching the episode would be completely different.  Instead of watching a show at its schedule day and time or setting up a timer in your DVR, this on-demand style set up would allow the viewer to stream the episode after it's release time.

Also, because the networks and producers of television shows need to make money, advertisements would be embedded in the stream and/or pop-up at the top or bottom of the screen, or before the stream started.  With advertising profits shrinking because of DVRs,and their commercial skipping or fast-forwarding features, this streaming option would force the commercials to be played, similar to Internet streaming now.

The hardware would need to be ready to grab a stream of the available shows (similar to Netfix's streaming setup), as well as, grab the over-the-air signal for live viewing.  The menu system would need to be similar to a TV guide, but with fully functional search features, including shows and their past episodes.  Each network could still have their different stations, as well as, local news and information specific to each network. While live viewing or searching a particular networks "channel" ads profits would benefit the particular network. The menus could be set up in such a way that each network can have the list of all their shows, combined with lists of all the available seasons and episodes, and even suggestions and social media elements for discovery options.

Hawaii Five-O Coming This Fall to CBS

Hawaii Five-O is coming to CBS, and it looks promising. Originally, I thought this was a movie trailer, which makes me think they might do a decent job with the special effects and filming quality.

Red Dead Redemption: A Short Video Made From a Video Game...Tonight on Fox

Tonight on Fox at midnight, watch the video made from the video game Red Dead Redemption. I'm hoping Techy Ted is available for gaming on Monday. I want to check out this game. Here is the original game trailer: Here is some multi-player actual game play video: Find many more videos and more about the game here.

Glee Does Madonna

Fox's Glee is the work of a musical genius. The singers, musicians, arangements, performances, quality, and quantity of music done on the show by the actors is so great. Here is a music video of the cheerleader's coach Sue Sylvester, played by Jane Lynch, doing Madonna's Vogue. This is so great. As in 80's and 90's kid, I loved Madonna and enjoyed the music from this episode of Glee called, "The Power of Madonna." The Sue Sylvester character is a great one. Just a taste of Sue's "personality":

30 Rock's HD Camera Gag...So Funny

I haven't laughed so hard in a long time; this hi-def camera gag on 30 Rock almost made me pee my pants. I cried laughing. And now that I've built it up too much, enjoy. I love the fact that Alec is younger and more handsome. This show is so great.

Patrick Swayze Died

Patrick Swayze passed away yesterday after his public battle with pancreatic cancer for the past few years. He was 57. In 1991, he was voted People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive. He was also in one of the best SNL skits ever done. After my work at the jail, I have a closeness with this video of Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze. The inmates "lovingly" referred to me and a fellow officer as these two Chippendales. This was found (and the titles were probably earned) because of our aggressive contraband searching skills and disciplinary report writing success:

Sony ZX5

The embedding code was even in Japanese but this is the next greatest TV. It's an LED TV so it's light, bright, and amazing. I can't wait for it to be announced in the USA. Maybe then, I will upgrade to HD and a PS3 with Blu-Ray...or not because I'm poor. Yes please.

Yeah Sorry, One More Top Gear Clip

I think it's the production quality and the amazing driving skills that does it for me. This one is intense. Imagine you are simply the passenger. You have no control. Only Ken does.

More Top Gear Goodness

Here's a video with my favorite of all compact cars, the VW R32 (a golf with a V6 and all wheel drive). This is good stuff. Clarkson pits the BMW 130 up against the VW R32.

Top Gear - We Need This Here

When I saw we need Top Gear here in the USA, I'm not saying we need a remake. We need the original broadcast here. Jeremy Clarkson is so great. He is a genius. He's funny. And he knows how do drive a car. AND...he will put down a piece of junk...like the Prius. Anyway, this two part video series is from the show, and it is just an example of his story telling abilities. He shows off some sweet British Army vehicles and some of his sweet driving skills, all with humor and a great a great plot. Enjoy. Part 1 Part 2

MacGruber and Pepsi

Conan O'Brien at the Auto Show

Conan O'Brien was at the Detroit Auto Show and took a camera crew. I laughed to the point of tears.

Doogie Howser to Barney Stinson...Neil Patrick Harris is Cool

I'll admit I watched Doogie Howser, MD. And now my wife and I love the show, "How I Met Your Mother." Well, being a music fan, and having played this song before in a speech class (I can explain that in detail some other time), the "SNL Doogie Howser theme song" skit was awesome to me. Neil Patrick Harris is either a great actor or he's really playing the keyboard too. His fingering look close and the rhythm is right. Hmmmm. Probably not but it would make him cooler. Yes I said cooler. He's cool now. Watch "How I Met Your Mother." And enjoy this too.

The A-Team

A while back I saw a commercial for "The A-Team," a television show from the 80s. I decided to record an episode to remind myself of an old favorite. Growing up I watched this show with my parents and it was always a "good guys beat bad guys" and "no one ever died" show...good family fun. Well, after watching the one show I recorded, I ended up recording all of them for a year or so and I watched every episode. I love the A-Team. I want one of those vans. And a Corvette like face.
