My Bright Idea #10 - Google's MMORPG Using Google Earth
My Bright Idea #10 - September 6, 2011
Google should develop an MMORPG using Google Earth and the 3D buildings that people are creating. People can join the "real world", but play and do things they may not normally do or be able to be part of.
This goes with my MMORPG "Real World" Game idea, where people play out themselves in the real world, but are able to choose to be "good" or "bad" and perform tasks to that end. You either choose to do things like stopping crimes seen in the game, or you choose to do them. People would live out their desired role, leading toward enforcement of rule and law or the destruction of it. Each "good" or "bad" thing done would earn the player points toward their goal. Depending on where and how the crimes or prevention is done, the player would earn roles in the world they create. There would also be an underlying points system for those things done without detection. This would allow for things like secret alter-egos in the world.
For example, if someone decided to be "good" and prevented crime, they may choose to become a COP, working a beat, etc. But if they prevent crimes that are behind the scenes, in dark allies, in back rooms, etc., they can earn roles such as FBI agent, with access to more information about other players or game characters, that might not otherwise be known. FBI agents would have access to information saved in the server, but not part of a characters "known" status in the world. If someone decides to be "good" but hides their identity with masks or costumes, they can eventually gain a super power.
On the bad side, the range of positions starts at street thug and goes to crime boss. And, for those that are able to reach crime boss and complete dangerous tasks without detection, they can "accidentally" be turned into a super villain with a super power, gained by a tragic accident within the game.

Star Wars The Old Republic Trailer
A trailer for the upcoming Star Wars The Old Republic game came out. This game is going to be similar to the World of Warcraft MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game), where nerds will begin living life inside this computer game, as characters from the Star Wars story line.
It might be time to return to the world of gaming. Here's what the game play looks like.

Star Wars: The Old Republic
MMO stands for Massively-Multiplayer Online Game. Games like World of Warcraft are very popular with nerds around the world. I recently heard about Star Wars: The Old Republic.
This is an interesting and large game. The website for the game has classes on all sorts of aspects of the game play. It's a little overwhelming. Here is a trailer on the game.
I've had an idea for a while about an MMO that was based on normal life. It would allow people to play roles in the game that they may fantasize about in real life; things like stealing cars, being a cop and chasing bad guys, owning a club, becoming mayor, etc.
Check out more about the game at http://www.swtor.com

The Drummer of Seville
I first saw this guy play the drums to the Super Mario Bros music, but when I looked him up on YouTube I found the Barber of Seville put to drum solo. This is awesome.

MORTAL KOMBAT!!! Rebirth
Thanks to a tweet by @joelmchale, I saw this video for the new Mortal Kombat Movie...or at least I think it's a new movie. IMDb knows nothing. The Internet seems confused. I did see Jeri Ryan in this video so, "7 of 9" makes it seem legit.
This is a Rated R preview, for "Really Creepy". Viewer's discretion is advised.

Pepsi vs. Coke...I'm Ready to Switch for the Merchandise
For a while I've been saying Pepsi needs to produce some classic glass bottles and start selling there sodas in them. If you don't remember just look here. Yesterday my wife and I checked out the new Dollar Tree in Rocklin and I saw this:
Where is the Pepsi stuff?
US Bank, my employer, took an internal survey on "Coke vs Pepsi vs Don't Care vs Don't Drink" and Coke beat out Pepsi by a large margin (actual numbers to follow when I go to work and find them again). Why? Pepsi is the superior tasting beverage, yet too may fast food restaurants sell it, too many people call "soda" "Coke", and too many of those people don't care or don't know the difference between the two and just vote Coke. What is wrong with people?
Even worse, what is wrong with PepsiCo? The areas best Pepsi provider (Taco Tree) has some issues with Pepsi. Although the owner swears by the beverage, the service they get from the distributor is more than lacking. Slow response on orders and repairs, poor quality repairs and service, lack of competitive pricing, and other factors seem to give "Pepsi Providers" more reasons to move on to Coke.
Where's the merchandise? Where's the answers to customer input? Answer ME!!!! I want Pepsi glassware. I want Pepsi products in a glass bottle. I want great tasting beverages like Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Code Red and Live Wire, Wild Cherry Pepsi, Mug Root Beer, even Sierra Mist for the non-caffeine crowd. I want these beverages at all my favorite fast food joints. Is there a burger joint selling Pepsi? Carl's? No. McDonald's? No Burger King? Well, who cares about Burger King. I don't have one friend that goes there.
So, I'll wrap this up with another letter to Pepsi...
Dear PepsiCo.,
I am a huge fan. I love all the sodas I listed above. Please use your billions of dollars to provide the world (or at least the Placer County area) with all the requests listed above. In list view it shows as follows:
1. More places to buy Pepsi and Pepsi products
2. Glass bottles of all your beverages
3. Cool merchandise
Thanks.
Yours truly,
Jimmy the "Pepsi Drinkin'" Gun
PS. The 3104 Clan gamed it up while drinking gallons of Code Red and Mountain Dew. I've always purchased Pepsi products over Coca-Cola's junk.
Also, I am such a Pepsi snob, I know all of the places that do and don't sell Pepsi, including the ones that have recently switched from one to the other. Unfortunately the switch is usually to Coke. I hear it's a service and price thing, not a popularity thing.
Let's work together to get Pepsi the lead over Coke...at least in the States. Good USA!

Street Fighter IV...This Brings Back Some Growing Up Stuff
I remember my 3 main friends growing up were all really good at video games. Dan, Ryan, and Jon spent thousands of dollars on games at Auburn's Prospector Hill, playing games like Street Fighter.
This video shows some clips of the newest version.
UPDATE: Blog reader apps can't retrieve the video. Go here to watch it.
It's fun to reminisce about the good old days.
BTW Dan, can you comment on how much money you think you gave Prospector Hill for the version of Street Fighter you mastered?

Game It Up 5!!!
More about TFU (The Force Unleashed). Awesome. And you can get the game on every system. Wii, PSP, PS2, PS3, XBox 360, Nintendo DS. Oh that's right, I don't see a PC version here. I guess it's time to buy an HDTV and a PS3.

Game It Up 4!!!
The evolution of gaming is coming. Google's new cell phone platform, combine with real world multiplayer first person shooter, is going to be the next platform of social networking combine with gaming and statistics tracking. The 3104 Clan will have to join. Maybe the software writers will be able to modify it to work with the 3G iPhone (if the iPhone2 has a GPS chip). This truly is an awesome idea.
I'm in. I will join this type of game. They can design it in such a way that you could play it any time, any where. Everyone likes the social networking. This type of gaming could take it to the next level.
Say you are in a city on vacation, and your program alerts you to an enemy approaching. You get the kill. But then you get to meet a fellow nerd, someone into the same game as you are.
Say you're in Napa, CA on a tour of the wine country. You are alerted to a teammate in the area. You meet up and share information about your favorite wines. Maybe that teammate is quite a bit wealthier than you are and dinner is on that person. Nice! Cole's Chop House is good.

Game It Up 3!!!
The last time I really played a game, I used my laptop with all its greatness at the time. Check out the stats on my machine here.
Now, gaming platforms, such as the PS3 and computers build for current gaming, don't just have a graphics card, they also use a card called a "physics card." This card manages just that, the physics of the games. Now game writing companies can take advantage of that card as well as the most recent graphics cards. They can now write programs that interact with the environment of the game. For example, this video for a new game from Lucas Arts called "The Force Unleashed" shows how the games writers are using the physics card to cause enemies and objects to react and interact with the player's character and the environment of the game. Watch the video for a better explanation and visual examples from this game, coming soon.
This makes me want to go out and buy a PS3. Yeah, that's the best of the consoles. Blu-Ray and all. Plus, the game doesn't look like it will be coming to computer.

Far Cry - The Movie
I played the computer version of Far Cry and loved it. I thought it was one of the best games, both in graphics and game play, I've ever played. Now there is a movie coming out to ruin the franchise. The trailer, which I purposefully didn't link, looks as bad as the Street Fighter and Mortal Combat movies. If Van Damme was in it, it would only be better.
Screen shots of the game can be found on my previous blogs about gaming here and here.
Here is the official trailer for the game. This is better than the movie trailer.
If you do want to torture yourself, you can find a link the the movie trailer at Crunch Gear. Yeah, they think it stinks too.

World of Warcraft-"4 Wheels of Furry" Spell
Toyota rules. If you don't know about “World of Warcraft”, it is an online game people play like an addiction. They pretty much live as though they are actually in the World of Warcraft. I know, my old roommate was and probably is still there. Several people have made fun of this addiction; including South Park.
